Area, Population, Premises
East Oxford is a busy and varied area of the City. The population is extremely mixed with all social classes represented. The Practice area includes most of the East side of the City and outlying villages.
Our Practice operates from state of the art £13m purpose built premises that opened in March 2007. As well as housing two GP practices the centre accommodates podiatry, physiotherapy, dietetics, a community phlebotomy service, the child protection service, midwifery services and the Oxford out of hours service (OxEMS).
The Registrar has their own room with PC. There is practice library with a good selection of books and journals.
Special features
A compact and friendly Practice with an emphasis on team working, we have regular contact with our Community nurses, counsellors and others involved in patient care. We have daily informal contact to discuss patients as well as weekly team meetings.
Our practice nurses run chronic disease management sessions including asthma, COPD, diabetes, smoking cessation, hypertension and cardiac conditions and are currently involved in training for minor illness assessment with a view to using these skills more widely. We run a substance misuse clinic in conjunction with a drug counsellor. We have a sizeable refugee population (8%) and work closely with the PCT to develop services for this group, including an interpreter service.
The Registrar
The Registrar is seen as an integral member of the Primary Health Care Team and all members take an active role in teaching, which is tailored to individual needs. There are also opportunities for senior registrar posts here.
The very varied population ensures that a mix of patients and conditions are seen during the course of the year. Our aim is to provide a flexible, stimulating and enjoyable environment for the year.
