Eynsham Medical GroupEynsham Medical Centre, Conduit Lane, Eynsham, Witney, Oxon OX29 4QB
Practice ProfileThe Eynsham Medical Group (formerly known as Dr Peterson & Partners) comprises the Eynsham Medical Centre and Long Hanborough surgery. These purpose-built surgeries are in the villages of Eynsham and Long Hanborough respectively: Eynsham lies seven miles to the west of Oxford on the A40 between Oxford and Witney, while Long Hanborough lies four miles due north of Eynsham on the A4095 Woodstock/Witney road. The practice serves approximately 13,000 patients (~7,500 Eynsham; ~5,500 Long Hanborough) in an area of low population density (1 -10 people per hectare) and low deprivation (Townsend Scores: -4 to 0). Both surgeries are dispensing. The Eynsham Medical Centre has five consulting rooms and three treatment rooms; Long Hanborough surgery has four consulting rooms and one treatment room. ECGs, pulse oximeters and spirometers are among the diagnostic equipment available at each end of the practice. The eight partners share their time between the two surgeries while having a recognised base at one end of the practice. In addition we employ a GP Retainer who fulfils three sessions per week (both at Long Hanborough). Five practice nurses cover treatment room activities and we have two resident teams of district nurses and health visitors in their own offices within each building. All mandatory targets are met consistently at the higher rate. An in-house physiotherapy service is also provided. Both surgeries are open 08.30 to 18.30 Monday to Friday. The appointment system is computerised with ten minute routine appointments, interspersed with ten minute same-day urgent slots. The group uses EMIS GV (Windows) and will be upgrading to EMIS PCS in 2005. The practice has been involved with GP training for many years; three of the eight partners are either current or past trainers. The GP Registrar has a dedicated consulting room at Eynsham. This room has a fitted video facility including a wall mounted wide angle colour camera, a wall mounted microphone, a VCR and a colour monitor. Training tutorials are held every Monday morning, with full day release each Tuesday: joint surgery with the trainer are held as required. The practice is a member of the South West and South East Oxfordshire Primary Care Trust. The practice runs its own registered charity. Monies raised are used to provide services and equipment for the benefit of our patients that would not normally be available within general practice. "Our philosophy is to deliver the best possible medical care to our patients and with our PHCT and the expertise of the Oxford hospitals we believe that we achieve this. A supportive partnership, we enjoy a good relationship with our patients and staff which leads directly to a happy and constructive working environment. We are a committed training practice."
