Area, Population and Premises

The Nuffield Health Centre was one of the first purpose built Health Centres in the country in 1965 with a pioneering development of Primary Health Care Facilities under one roof (Physiotherapy, specialist Out-patient clinics, X-ray, attached District nurses and Health Visitors). Now some services have moved to the Community Hospital site over the road an exciting refurbishment and expansion of the Health Centre was completed in August 2004. We are one of four Practices in the town and serve a population of around 11,000 in and around a very pleasant market town with very little social deprivation, within easy reach of both Oxford and the Cotswold countryside. We are a long standing teaching and training Practice for postgraduate GP Registrars and undergraduate medical students. Witney Community Hospital has GP beds providing experience of elderly and terminal care and has a Minor Injuries Unit as well as providing a base for the Out-of-Hours service.

Special Features

There is a range of expertise and special skills amongst the 7 partners with a mixture of full and part-time. Three of the doctors are females as is our Practice Manager. Ed Morris has been a GP trainer since 1992 and has interests in complementary medicine and psychological aspects of disease. Steve Brylewski was lately Treasurer of the LMC, has an interest in Sports medicine and is a GP specialist in ENT. Pat Prosser is GP Tutor in the Department of Primary Health Care at Oxford Medical School and Susanna Graham-Jones was a Lecturer there with a special interest in Mental Health in Primary Care. Nimmi Naidoo is involved in developing the Appraisal programme for the South West Oxon PCT. Oliver Boland, a former senior Registrar in Endocrinology and Diabetes was a GP Registrar here and is Tutor in Clinical medicine at the Department of Primary Health Care. He returned from a year's Sabbatical in New Zealand in Feb 2003. Gareth Evans joined the Practice in September 2005 as a new full-time partner.  He has interests in teaching and medical ethics. (Often our GP Locums and Registrars seem to like to stay on in the Practice or in the area!)

The Registrar

The Registrar has their own fully equipped and furnished room with easy access to help and advice at any time. Training Practice Assessment Reports have consistently commended the friendly and supportive working environment and staff. After the initial induction period, the Registrar participates fully in the working of the Practice and the Primary Care Team. There is a library and coffee room where staff meet daily to share problems, arrange visits and converse. There is continuing IT development in the Practice with E-mail facilities, Internet access, medical databases and computerised disease registers and prescribing systems providing opportunities for research and audit. We also have lunchtime educational meetings.
